Klangspiel & Website on Umfeld

by Seongjoo Moon

A sound-toy (“Klangspiel”) and accompanying website created for The Small Computing Group exhibition. Both are driven by Umfeld, demonstrating how a single small-footprint codebase can power an interactive installation as well as its documentation site.

About the Course & Exhibition

Developed during the Winter Semester 2025 Digital Media program at HfK Bremen, held by Dennis P. Paul (the developer behind Umfeld).

“In a world where bigger is better, our Small Computing Group course was an attempt to go small. Why write 1,000,000 lines of code when you can get away with just the right, smart 1,000 lines? Why animate 60 frames per second when you can make 2 frames (and it will be enough)? Require less, design more.”

At the exhibition, visitors were invited to see and interact with small, peculiar, unusual devices and applications developed during the course.
